Tucked down a narrow alley off Euljiro 4-ga, Wooraeok has been serving Pyongyang-style cold noodles since a Pyongyang-born founder opened it in 1946. While famous for its understated, beefy Pyongyang naengmyeon, regulars often order the kimchi-mari naengmyeon — buckwheat noodles placed over rice, generous hot meat broth poured over them, then topped with kimchi, pear and brisket. The result balances deep, savory broth with the tang of napa and nabak kimchi and the toasty, nutty bite of buckwheat noodles. You can ask to leave out the noodles or rice when you order.

Local Tips

  • Classic Pyongyang naengmyeon: clear, savory beef broth with nutty buckwheat noodles
  • Kimchi-mari naengmyeon is the local wildcard — noodles over rice with broth, kimchi, pear and brisket
  • Down a narrow alley in Euljiro; open daily 11:30–21:00 — reservations and parking available, and you can request no noodles or no rice
