(9 reviews)Gugujip prepares a range of dishes — (cold raw-fish soup), juk (porridge), deopbap (rice bowls) and bibimbap — using seasonal seafood landed from ports around Korea such as Baekdo, Gajin and Daejin. Live seafood is kept in tanks filled with deep-sea water to keep the seafood as fresh as when it was first brought in. The signature "teuk " piles squid, seasonal sashimi, conch, octopus, sea squirt, sea cucumber, abalone and flying fish roe on an icy, very cold broth. A house-made maesil (plum) syrup and a special domestic-stock broth add a bright sweet-and-tangy lift. After eating the seafood and vegetables, locals often finish by stirring in a bowl of steamed rice or thin wheat noodles (somen) into the remaining broth for a satisfying finish.
Local Tips
- •Special mulhoe topped with squid, seasonal sashimi, abalone, sea cucumber and flying fish roe
- •Live seafood kept in deep-sea-water tanks for extra freshness; sources include Baekdo, Gajin and Daejin ports
- •After eating the sashimi, stir in steamed rice or somen to the remaining broth for a warming finish
