(32 reviews)A third-generation bibimbap house opened in 1973, Gajok Hoegwan is known for preserving Jeonju’s traditional bibimbap style. Founder Kim Nyeon-im is officially recognized as a bibimbap master (Ministry of Agriculture’s Traditional Food Artisan No.39) and a Jeollabuk-do intangible cultural asset. The menu focuses on two bibimbap classics — and (raw beef) Bibimbap — plus a large set menu that must be reserved a day ahead. Meals arrive on a wooden tray with more than ten banchan (side dishes) and a steaming ttukbaegi steamed egg; rice is cooked in sagol (beef bone) broth so it stays moist and flavorful even as it cools.
